Utagawa Hiroshige 'A man on horseback in the snow.' circa 1840-42
This morning we received some expected, nevertheless sad news that a dear, loved and precious friend died in her sleep last night. We are extremely sad, but that sadness is mingled with the strange joy of those who have Hope that our cherished wise lady has gone home and will rise again in glory.
I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38:39
I think my late friend would have liked the above image, as it is a little different. Hence when I saw this just now researching about white pigment on the Windsor and Newton website (art history stuff) she would have appreciated it's unrelated content alluding to Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem, plus we would have had an art discussion of space within the illusionistic plane and proportion in Japanese wood blocks!
We had been adding roses to our Jesse Tree at Celtic Prayers this morning, and it seemed appropriate that when we heard the news that our friend, who conjured up the most magnificent gardens had died, that a rose attributed in art history to Mary was just right. Our cherished and loved friend we felt echoed Mary's Song especially Luke 1: 46-48....
Mary’s Song
And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant."
as her soul in a heartbeat like Mary said "YES" without question to the Lord.

Our friend (because she was our collective and intimate friend) was special through a myriad of ways and blessed with an ever enquiring mind would challenge those who were also travelling on the Way to stop and think why and how and what it means to 'you' and how was God working in your life right now! Loving, exhausting and refreshing all at the same time always with a cuppa and often a delicious home bake that is how I will remember my precious friend. Warm and generous, full of grace and with an abundant hospitality of heart and Spirit.
Good night, God bless and safe home at last my dear and precious friend.
Peace be with you friends. <><
