The Light shines in the darkness...

...and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5

I long for the 21st December because I know the next day the days will begin to stretch out again slowly and longingly towards the warmth of the spring. And as we inch towards the 25th I always have a more excitable glow inside as I know the Light is coming.

I met my friend this morning for a walk up at the White Tower on the edge of Southwick Wood and we breathed in the cold air and stood in awe as the skyline glimmered and glistened before our eyes. We thanked God for another blessed and beautiful morning. There is anticipation in the air as it seems the land knows a new season is beginning.

Last night I had read in Celtic Advent for 21st December that it is never truly dark, the light is always there. I stopped and thought about that for a moment and realised how true that is, because The Light is always there, our loving Lord that is always shining in the nooks and crannies to remind us not to fear, and to encourage us to smile that inward knowing smile in our hearts that Light is coming again.
