Between the stars, up there in his house
Between the stars the Lord laid down your life
Between the stars, near him in paradise
The night when the Lord desired you, the night
The night when with two flesh he created your life
The night when his first love smiled on you
Bless the night
Between the stars the Lord wrote your name
Between the stars, up there in his house
Between the stars the Lord laid down your life
Between the stars, near him in paradise
The day the Lord redeemed you, the day
The day he made you his child forever
The day he made his stay Blessed with your heart
Between the stars the Lord wrote your name
Between the stars, up there in his house
Between the stars the Lord laid down your life
Between the stars, near him in paradise
The evening when the Lord will call you, the evening
The evening when your old age will hasten the departure
The evening of the transfigured appointment Hope blessed in
the evening
Between the stars the Lord wrote your name
Between the stars, up there in his house
Between the stars the Lord laid down your life
Between the stars, near him in paradise
Between the stars the Lord laid down your life
Between the stars, near him in paradise
Out walking yesterday I had the privilege of watching a pair of Red Kites soar and glide alongside me. It reminded me of God’s presence, with us always as we go along our way. I stood and watched as one of the birds came so close, I hardly took breath it was a wonderful moment. There was a steadfastness about it. A recognition, of "I am here and so are you, we can do this, we can work together". It was at this point I remembered the ‘Singing Nun’. Yep she has lost it I hear you cry, but honestly I remembered not just Soeur Sourire, but another song not associated with her at all: “All Night, All Day, Angels watching over me” and I inwardly sang along my way home. Of course I had to look the song up and found this absolutely wonderful rendition….

… a song we sang at school, and in the Ranger Guides around campfires, and I know I heard it on the radio, lots. But Jeannine Decker, the Singing Nun brought a certain joy with her simply accompanied songs, and many were based on her faith. It was the song
‘Entre Les Etoiles’ that was such a beautiful find. The words are quite stunning, powerful in their simplicity. For me it hammered home the absolute love of God for us. Isaiah 44:24 and Psalm 139 were perhaps her inspiration, I don’t know. But it spoke to me in the same way St Theresa; the Little Flower spoke, about it ok being a daisy, we can’t all be roses. Whoever we are, God has us safely between the stars, near him in paradise. We can’t fly like the Red Kites, but we can soar in our hearts with gratitude and thankfulness that God holds us so firmly in love.
Isaiah 44:24
24 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
who formed you from the womb:
“I am the Lord, who made all things,
who alone stretched out the heavens,
who spread out the earth by myself,
Psalm 139
O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
3 You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
5 You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.
Peace be with you friends <><
